Affidavit Details Danielle's Journal Entries

Girl's Disappearance Suspects Appear In Court

Newly released affidavits in the case of a Bloomfield 15-year-old found after a yearlong disappearance detail accusations made against the three people charged with harboring her.

The three suspects in the case of the missing girl found hidden in a West Hartford home appeared in court at 11 a.m. on Thursday, marking the second court appearance since their arrests on June 6.

Accusations In Girl's Disappearance Detailed

Adam Gault, his common-law wife Ann Murphy and their housemate Kimberly Cray are accused of harboring Danielle Cramer for the past year. They were arrested after police executed a search warrant on Gault's home and found Danielle in a locked space behind a dresser, underneath a staircase.

The search-warrant affidavit claims that Danielle kept a journal that detailed "a sexual relationship between her and Adam Gault that began in November of 2005. The journal entries describe that she and Gault engaged in sexual intercourse … and that he had introduced her to the use of marijuana."

The affidavit says that when Danielle was discovered in the locked crawl space, investigators said, "she disclosed that she had been with Gault nearly one year ago. … That Gault took her with him to Daytona, Fla., in his car from February to March of 2007. She also stated that she has been to Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire."

The affidavit also claims that Danielle told investigators that while with Gault, she had been using an alias and had dyed her hair at least four times. Cramer said that she had not been attending school while with Gault, according to the affidavit.

After her discovery, police said that Danielle "stated that she has had sexual intercourse in the past two days, but will not disclose who she had sex with. She has disclosed that she … recently had an abortion at Planned Parenthood in West Hartford, but would not disclose who the father was. She stated Ann Murphy would be really mad if she found out."

According to the warrant, police had investigated other complaints against Gault nearly 10 years ago involving inappropriate relationships with two underage girls. Gault was not charged in either case.

"Gault denied having a sexual relationship with the second girl, but told the West Hartford Police Department investigator that he may pursue a sexual relationship with her when she turns 16," the warrant says.

Police said that prior to finding Danielle in the West Hartford home, her friends told investigators that the 15-year-old had "confided in them that she was having sex with an older white man named Adam. The friends reported hearing (from her) that she had sex with Adam at his home, in his vehicle and at his business where she worked with him."

Suspects' Attorneys Seek Reduced Bond

Attorneys for the suspects questioned Thursday why the cases are being moved to a higher level court when the highest charges the suspects face are Class C felonies.

Gerry Klein, the attorney for Gault, the main suspect in this case, disputed reported claims that evidence seized at Gault's home will generate even more charges.

"Before I knew that I was going to get involved in this case, all I saw (police say) was that (they) found pornographic tapes of my client with young women, and I can tell you again, I wasn't there, but from what my client was telling me, they were not able to produce any of those because they do not exist," Klein said.

Gault has also appealed his bond of $1 million. All three of the suspects are due in Part A court on July 3.
