WALLINGFORD, Conn. -- Wallingford officials are considering a ban on Silly String, the chemical foam string spray, during parades and other public celebrations. The Town Council's ordinance committee will discuss outlawing the spray at its July 10 meeting.
June Seichter, a resident who requested the discussion, said Silly String remnants were strewn around downtown after this year's Memorial Day parade. "I think it's kind of a disgrace," she said. "It's nasty stuff. The kids are plastering it all over the proprietors' windows." Mayor William W. Dickinson Jr. is not certain whether the Silly String issue is serious enough to warrant an ordinance. "I'd hate to see that become a matter for police," he said. "There are far more important things for them to become involved with."Kristina Guerrera was the first person Eyewitness News found to talk about the proposal, which she would support mostly to keep the Silly String from being used against her.Others felt that it was a bad way for the town to spend their time."That's ridiculous, a waste of taxpayers' money. Beyond silly," said Derek Hunt, of Wallingford. The resident who proposed the ban did not return calls from Eyewitness News for comment.
