Prosecutors Want Shefelbine's Bond Revoked

Man Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Girls

Prosecutors are trying to revoke bond for an accused sexual predator.

Authorities said Scott Shefelbine should be locked up because he violated the terms of his release.

Shefelbine has been arrested numerous times on charges of preying on young girls and he's currently free on bond.

While awaiting trial, police again arrested Shefelbine on similar charges.

Shefelbine, 32, of Tolland, returned to court on Tuesday because state prosecutors said they believe he is dangerous.

On Tuesday in court, a young girl spoke about her relationship with Shefelbine, who she said told her he was 17 and went to a private school in West Hartford. West Hartford police recently arrested Shefelbine on charges of preying on a young girl.

State victims advocate Jim Papillo said Shefelbine needs to be locked up.

"A whole lot of time has transpired here and he's been out and the concern is going to be for other young victims," Papillo said. "He's a sexual predator thumbing his nose at the system."

The most recent victim said she met Shefelbine online and they met in West Hartford Center. After that, she said he went to her home one day and told her he was at his therapist's office on Prospect Avenue in Hartford and that he decided to walk over.

Shefelbine's attorney, Jeffery Denner, questioned the meetings, pointing out that the time the girl said Shefelbine was at her house, he was still at a therapy session.

"The evidence speaks for itself and Mr. Shefelbine was not in their houses. If they say he was, they are mistaken," Denner said.

State lawmakers said a law exists that allows judges to revoke bond immediately if there is a violation, but feel some are reluctant to use it.

A decision was not made on Tuesday and the case is scheduled to return to court on Wednesday.
