VERNON -- Scott Shefelbine outside Rockville Superior Court

Shefelbine's Parents, Sister Testify

Hearing To Determine Whether Man Violated Release

UPDATED: 7:24 pm EDT July 11, 2007

The parents and sister of a man accused of sexually assaulting teenage girls testified in court on Wednesday.

Even before his trial begins, accused sex offender Scott Shefelbine appeared for his second day in court as prosecutors argued to have his bail revoked.

The Rockville Superior Court judge ordered everyone involved to return to court on Thursday for more hearings before determining whether Shefelbine did in fact violate terms of his release on bond.

Several police detectives testified, including one from West Hartford who tested several fingerprints taken from one of the victims' homes. A 15-year-old victim has said she met Shefelbine in West Hartford Center and that he even came to her home and talked to her about having sex.

Under his release agreement, Shefelbine was not allowed to have any contact with a minor and he was under house arrest.

The victim has said Shefelbine touched several items in her bedroom; however, detectives said in court that none of the fingerprints have matched Shefelbine's prints so far. Police continue to conduct more testing on the fingerprints.

The girl and her sister have identified Shefelbine in court, but said he looked different in May. They said he didn't have a beard as he does now.

Cindy Shefelbine, the suspect's sister, testified on Wednesday that her brother has had a beard for nearly a year. Photos taken in May, just a day or two before the victim said she saw Scott Shefelbine, were shown in court on Wednesday. The pictures depict that he did have a beard.

Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Susan Raff reported Cindy Shefelbine appeared agitated when asked about her brother's whereabouts.

Cindy Shefelbine said her brother was with her at church the day that one of the victims said Scott Shefelbine came to her home. Prosecutors asked whether Cindy Shefelbine felt her brother was being unfairly prosecuted and she said she didn't know what that meant.

The defense claimed this is a case of mistaken identity and whoever this young girl saw in her home was not Scott Shefelbine.

Bail Commissioner Joann Vaughan testified in the case on Wednesday, explaining how Scott Shefelbine had to wear an electronic bracelet after his arrest last October.

She testified that she had no written records and admitted that that was a mistake. While she said Scott Shefelbine did call her regularly to say where he was going, she had no way of checking.
