Six People Face Judge In Teen-Sex Case

Men Accused Of Paying Teen Boy For Sex

UPDATED: 8:26 pm EDT July 12, 2007

Six defendants accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy appeared in court on Thursday.

Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Susan Raff reported all six people appeared in New Britain Superior Court, where the case was moved from Waterbury.

Prosecutors wanted the case moved to New Britain because some of these defendants have connections in their community.

"They'll be treated like anyone else, regardless of rank or their status in the community," Waterbury State's Attorney John Connelly said.

Carl Gemino, (pictured), who is married with children and is the owner of Gem Manufacturing Co. in Waterbury, is one of six men arrested on allegations of having sex with a 15-year-old boy.

Raff reported that the boy told police that Gemino would pay for a hotel room and other men would meet them for sex. The boy said he was given money and clothes in exchange for sex.

In an early statement to police, Gemino admitted to having sex with the boy 10 times.

Robert Kennedy, another defendant in this case, was a police lieutenant when the boy said Kennedy forced him to have sex in a police cruiser and at the officer's home. He was fired from the department after his arrest on sexual assault charges.

Investigators said they found the young boy's home phone number on the officer's cell phone and that the boy has given accurate descriptions of officer's home.

Authorities said the sexual encounters also took placed in public places, including a library and a park in the heart of downtown Waterbury.

Raff explained that the details in the case are graphic. In several statements, the boy told police he was given money and clothes in exchange for sexual favors.

In one report, the boy told investigators about Donald Beaulieu, a Waterbury judicial marshal. The boy said he met Beaulieu at several motels and parks where he was asked to perform oral sex.

"Did your client have sex with this young boy?" Raff asked Beaulieu's lawyer, Leonard Crone.

"Absolutely not. I believe him, I totally believe him. There's no doubt in my mind," Crone said.

Crone said Beaulieu never met the boy.

"I think there's plenty of motive, and we'll talk about that some more after we get some more information," Crone said.

Those charged also include: Michael Juliano, 25, of Waterbury; Bayron Ramos, 20, of Waterbury; Edwin Tito Guindin, 37, of Waterbury; and Robert Dubauskas, 44, of Watertown.

Connelly said all six defendants will not all appear together and they will be separated into two groups.
