UPDATED: 4:39 pm EDT July 24, 2007

The lingering effects of a raw sewage spill in Rocky Hill may not be going away anytime soon.

The Metropolitan District Commission said a sewage main broke on Saturday night and spilled about 2,000 to 3,000 gallons of dirty water into basements at Dividend and Laurel roads.

Losses range from furniture to computers, and many people said they want some kind of reimbursement from the MDC.

"Hopefully, we can recoup our losses and get our life back together because it does stink," said Rick Gilbert, of Rocky Hill.

"The water was coming up out of drain. Unbelievable. I couldn't stop it. I tried everything," said Jim Coureen, of Rocky Hill.

The damage will need to be assessed.
