BRANFORD, Conn. -- The town of Branford said goodbye to its police chief on Tuesday night.Chief Robert Gill retired after 45 years on the force, nine of which he served as chief.Eyewitness News reported Gill received an outpouring of love and support from family, friends and the community.John DeCarlo took over as the town's new chief at midnight, calling it a great honor, but saying it was still sad to see Gill leave."He really brought the community of Branford and the Police Department together. So, we're very sorry to see him go, but we wish him the very best," DeCarlo said.DeCarlo served as deputy police chief under Gill.
