PORTLAND, Conn. -- The Portland Fire Department responded on Sunday to a barn on Isinglass Hill Road that was fully engulfed in flames, officials said. The fire was first reported at about 4 p.m. The barn was not a working barn, officials said, and it was only used for storage.Neighbors said a couple lived in an apartment on the second floor of the barn, but a family close to the owner of the barn did not comment.Officials said there was a graduation party with a dozen or so people on the property. Someone at the party noticed smoke coming from the barn, officials said.Firefighters said they saw flames and smoke when they pulled up.They called East Hampton and Glastonbury for mutual aid because no hydrants were in area, and they needed help pumping water. Tanker trucks had to drive a mile to a hydrant on route 17 in order to get water, officials said.
