Former Lieutenant Faces Child Porn Charges

Kennedy Arrested In May In Connection With Teen Prostitute

UPDATED: 6:35 pm EDT August 16, 2007

A former Waterbury police lieutenant is facing more charges in connection with a case involving an underage boy.

Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Teresa Labarbera reported that Robert Kennedy turned himself in to police after learning of a warrant for his arrest.

Kennedy was one of six men arrested this past May on charges of having sex with an underage boy.

The most recent charges against the former lieutenant involve possession of child pornography.

Lt. Chris Corbett of the Waterbury Police Department told Eyewitness News that after a forensic examination of Kennedy's computer, photos of children -- both boys and girls -- were found.

Corbett said the photos depicted children in sexual poses and taking part in sexual acts.

Kennedy's May arrest stemmed from a prostitution ring involving a 15-year-old boy. In that case, the teen told police that Kennedy forced him to have sex in a police cruiser and at the officer's home, according to police.

Police said the teen's phone number was found in Kennedy's cell phone.

Kennedy had been an officer in the Brass City since 1995 and left the force after his first arrest.

Kennedy's attorney did not return Eyewitness News' calls seeking comment.
