Tenants Complain Of Prison-Like Fence

New Fence Surrounds Apartment Building

UPDATED: 7:48 pm EDT September 28, 2007

Residents of a New Haven apartment building are complaining that a new fence looks as though it should be surrounding a prison.

The resident said the fence is located at the backside of the House Street property and is calling it an extreme in the world of security measures.

Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Leon Collins reported that the 10-foot-high fence is topped with razor wire.

Building management said the security of their tenants is a priority and a previous fence had been damaged. Managers said the new fence is meant to be durable.

Collins reported that any fence over 8 feet in the city requires a permit. City officials said they checked the records and that they plan to send officials to the site next Monday.
