Police Say Woman Driver Of Stolen Car Died

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- A vehicle crashed on East Street near the Newington town line Sunday at about 2:30 a.m., killing the driver.Police said the car, a 2004 Cadillac, was stolen from Wethersfield sometime overnight, and a Wethersfield police officer attempted to stop it as it traveled through Newington.The Cadillac's driver failed to stop for the officer and entered New Britain city limits at a high rate of speed and crashed, police said.The Cadillac burst into flames as a result of the impact, and the operator died at the scene, police said.
The driver has not been identified, but police said they have determined that the operator was a woman.They said she was wearing a double hoop-type earring in her left ear and a bracelet on her left wrist. They said she was wearing a dark colored sweat pants.Anyone who has information as to the identity of the driver should call the New Britain Police Department at 826-3000.
