WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- While it's not unusual for tickets to sell out for musical performances, posters advertising an upcoming performance of the Connecticut Opera seem to be disappearing quicker than the tickets.Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Dan Kain reported that posters for the upcoming performance of Tosca by the Connecticut Opera are coming down as fast as they go up.Opera officials said the posters are being snatched off walls of restaurants, libraries and bookstores."All of a sudden they started disappearing," said Christen Eure of the Connecticut Opera. "My poster guy says, 'I put them up two days ago, and they're gone. I don't know what to do.' I said, 'Put more up.'"
The Opera has gone to a second printing of the poster -- 750 in all, and said the newest posters are now disappearing."Normally we only put out 100 or 150," Eure said.Eure said he thinks the posters are disappearing because they are aesthetically pleasing."The poster is beautiful, it's stunning, it's dramatic, it's just art," he said. "Who wouldn't want to have one in their home?"The 59ers Café in West Hartford Center is one of the places where the posters are disappearing the quickest."We missed on the first day, someone came and took it down, so we put it back up," said Jason Kovolski of the café. "It's a little odd, but it's West Hartford Center so anything goes here."The opera will be held at the Palace in Waterbury on Oct. 28 and Nov. 1 and 3 at the Bushnell in Hartford."I'd rather sell tickets before the performance, and then at the performance, I'll sell the posters," Eure said.
