ROCKY HILL, Conn. -- A man aimed a shotgun at officers on Friday in a neighborhood near other houses and business, police said.Police found Derrick Greenwald armed in his back yard, and they said he aimed his shotgun at officers before running from his home on Farmstead Road toward Route 3."The gun was loaded, it was in the firing position, and it was aimed directly at our officers," Rocky Hill police Lt. Robert Catania said.Greenwald, 38, threatened the lives of officers and others, Rocky Hill police said. Greenwald's former fiancee apparently called police, worried he was going to do harm."He was despondent over an event in his life," Catania said. "He was armed with two rifles -- a shotgun and a high-capacity .22-style (gun)."Officers positioned themselves in front of Greenwald's home and said he aimed his shotgun at police for a second time."The officers set up a perimeter, they had a second contact with the man and ordered him to drop his gun, he didn't and he went back to his home," Catania said. "He leveled the gun at the officers and the officers fired two shots, at which time, Mr. Greenwald went down and was taken into custody."Greenwald was not struck by either two bullets that police shot. Police said Greenwald lost his footing and fell to ground when officers arrested him.Police charged Greenwald with four counts of criminal attempt to commit murder.
