A home under construction in Torrington is using the latest in green technology.

The Litchfield County Board of Realtors came together with the Home Builders Association of Northwest Connecticut to build an environmentally friendly house.

"There's going to be some big paybacks for the family moving into the house in terms of saving water, saving electricity, saving gas," said builder Steve Tempkint.

He said the home was built to take advantage of the energy power of the sun.

The home's foundation was poured on Tuesday and the house will use renewable sources such as bamboo flooring. The paint used in the house will also be low on chemical compounds that can vaporize and get into the air.

When the home is completed, it is expected to sell in the upper $300,000s.
