A former firefighter has been sentenced to prison for using hidden cameras to spy on his stepdaughter.

Richard Stevenson, of East Haddam, admitted to setting up several cameras throughout his house, including two in his stepdaughter's bedroom.

Stevenson was sentenced to six months in prison at Middlesex Superior Court on Monday.

His stepdaughter and ex-wife told Eyewitness News that they believe Stevenson deserved a longer sentence.

Ann Marie Stevenson said that she and her daughter will never forget what her ex-husband did. She said that she married Richard Stevenson, and thought that he was a wonderful father until she found some pornographic tapes. She said that when she viewed one of the tapes, she was stunned.

"It was my daughter," she said.

After searching their home, she said she found 72 tapes taken of her daughter, who was 17 at the time. The videos were taken in her daughter's bedroom, and the girl was often naked.

Ann Marie Stevenson said that her ex-husband told her that he wanted a place to call his own, and took to a shed behind the family's home. She said he called the shed "Paradise Ranch."

Police said a monitor was discovered in the shed.

Ann Marie Stevenson told Eyewitness News that she also found a bag of her daughter's underwear in the shed.

Police said five hidden cameras were found in the home, two of which were in the stepdaughter's bedroom.

The stepdaughter told the judge on Monday that she feels violated and that she doesn't trust anyone anymore.

Stevenson, a New Haven firefighter for 35 years, must register as a sex offender.
