Two Men Sought In Credit Union Robbery

School Locked Down During Search; $10,000 Reward Offered

POSTED: 2:25 pm EST January 16, 2008

Two men remain at large who were linked by police to a bank robbery in East Hartford just after the new year.

East Hartford police said two men -- one armed with a semiautomatic handgun -- robbed the American Eagle Federal Credit Union branch on Main Street at about 10:17 a.m. on Jan. 3. They were last seen running on foot westbound on Colt Street.

Officers, a police K-9 unit and Trooper One searched for the men, who ultimately escaped. Police did not specify whether anything was stolen. Police placed the nearby Willowbrook School on lockdown during the search.

Police described the men as about 6 feet tall with medium builds. Police said the men were last seen wearing ski masks, one of whom also wore a white scarf and dark sunglasses.

Police are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the men.

If you have information regarding this investigation, contact East Hartford police Detective Jason Smola by dialing 860-291-7541. All calls will be kept confidential.
