WATERFORD, Conn. -- Three men assaulted and robbed a man in his Waterford home on Thursday morning, police said.Waterford police said the men invaded a home on Bloomingdale Road in Waterford's Quaker Hill neighborhood just after 8 a.m. Police said a 20-year-old man was at home alone, sleeping at the time.Police identified the assailants as Christian Santos, 18, of Groton; Robert Ruiz, 18, of Norwich; and Neal Morales, 21, of Groton."They did strike him with instruments found about the house. We haven't specifically identified each and every instrument, but know that he was struck with instruments," Waterford Police Chief Murray Pendleton said.Police did not identify the victim, whose injuries were so severe he had to be taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for stitches, Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Susan Raff reported.Police said all of the men were involved in an altercation before the three assailants fled. Waterford police said they were able to get a description of the suspects from a neighbor, and within an hour, New London police found the men in a car not far away.Waterford investigators said they believe the incident was not random because the assailants were familiar with the victim through a mutual acquaintance. Police said the assailants stole cameras from the house. The 20-year-old man lives at the home with his parents, who were on vacation, Eyewitness News has learned. When Eyewitness News knocked on the door seeking comment, no one answered. All three assailants remain held on $250,000 bond on burglary, assault, robbery, larceny and unlawful restraint charges. Waterford and New London police are working together in this investigation.
