NORWICH, Conn. -- A former Norwich police officer is under arrest on charges of robbing a jewelry store.Police arrested Jamie Longolucco on Thursday in Groton and charged him with third-degree burglary of a jewelry store in Mystic.Thursday's arrest marks the third time authorities arrested Longolucco in the past two months. The nine-year veteran of the Norwich police force is accused of stealing a replica Faberge egg worth a few hundred dollars more than two years ago, sources told Eyewitness News. The egg was taken late at night after someone smashed a window display case, Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Len Besthoff reported.Norwich police told Eyewitness News they were contacted early on about the possibility of Longolucco being involved, but nothing materialized.Recently, because of other circumstances in his life, additional evidence surfaced against Longolucco, including his arrest in New London on allegations that he punched a woman in the face.Hours after he was fired from the Norwich Police Department on accusations of misconduct, state police said he showed up at a resident trooper's office, saying he had homicidal thoughts about his former boss, Norwich Police Chief Louis Fusaro. On Friday, Longolucco was released on bond. He did not return calls from Eyewitness News requesting comment.
