New Britain Men Remain Held On Combined $5M Bond

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- Two men accused of sexually assaulting children -- including a 3-month-old -- briefly appeared in public in handcuffs on Thursday to plead not guilty in New Britain Superior Court.WARNING: Some details of this report are disturbing and may be difficult for some to read.
Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Jessica Schneider reported public defenders have started preparing for trial in the cases of Harold Spurling, 39, and Jeffrey Brisson, 29, who both face several sexual assault, child molestation and risk of injury to a minor charges that date as far back as eight years ago and involve children.Police stormed into the pair's New Britain apartment on Washington Street to serve a warrant at the end of January.Officers discovered a 3-month-old girl and confiscated evidence of child pornography, authorities said.Police said the men used the Internet to promote their alleged activities. In addition to the 3-month-old girl, police said the pair sexually assaulted a 14-year-old boy and, possibly, others.The pair's next court date is March 18 for a pretrial hearing. Spurling remains held on $2 million bond and Brisson remains held on $3 million bond.
