HARTFORD, Conn. -- The rising cost of energy has inspired some builders to fight the costs by implementing green technology in the construction of Connecticut homes.Max McQuillen and Dino Pandolfo are builders who have a planned a state-of-the-art home with high levels of energy efficiency. The builders told Eyewitness News that high-tech windows and siding are among the items that are designed to cut homeowner costs.Channel 3 Eyewitness News reported Kevin Hogan reported that the builders will install insulation inside the house between the walls to conserve energy. In addition, they have selected double-glazed windows, which will feature gas and clear layer of film between the panes to further the conservation of energy in the home.Hogan reported that the energy-saving components of the construction have been tested to ensure efficiency.
Although the contractors are not considering solar panels in the home, they said they are planning to install an oil-filed boiler.Hogan said the cost of energy efficient windows is not minor. Experts recommend that homeowners use the windows throughout the home to reap the full benefit.McQuillen said he upgraded all of the windows in his home and still on his first tank of oil this season.
