Police: Chiropractor Harassed Stroke Victim

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- A New Haven chiropractor is facing charges after being accused of making harassing phone calls to a stroke victim.Steve Piserchia is accused of leaving harassing messages for stroke victim Brit Harwe. Harwe said that her phone’s caller ID traced the calls back to Piserchia’s office, New Haven Medical Sports and Occupational Health.Harwe said that she went to a chiropractor for a neck adjustment years ago. She said that during her treatment, an artery was crushed and she suffered a stroke.Harwe, along with another stroke victim, began the Chiropractic Stroke Awareness Group, hoping to inform people of the possible dangers of going to a chiropractor.
She said that she received seven messages that she believes are in retaliation for the formation of her group.“It’s unbelievable someone can do this, and to find out he’s a chiropractor, a doctor,” Harwe said.According to a police report, Piserchia admitted to making the phone calls and turned himself in to New Haven police last weekend.Piserchia is facing second-degree harassment charges.Piserchia’s attorney told Eyewitness News that Piserchia is innocent and that he is looking forward to his day in court.Piserchia is scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court next Thursday.
