CCSU Police Send Alert To Students

'Possible Threat to the Community'

POSTED: 4:39 pm EDT March 27, 2008

Central Connecticut State University Police sent this notice via e-mail to the campus community late Thursday afternoon, amidst a police search for a man wanted in connection with the abduction of a woman overnight.

The message reads as follows:

On Thursday, March 27, 2008, shortly after midnight the New Britain Police Department Patrol Division received a complaint of a stolen motor vehicle. The stolen motor vehicle was described as a 2002 Oldsmobile Van with a temporary registration.

Approximately a half hour after the stolen motor vehicle was reported a New Britain man called the New Britain Police Department to report that his 20 year old girlfriend was abducted from the Essex Place on East Street in New Britain. At some point the van was spotted by a CT State Trooper in the area of 84 and Rt. 9. The operator of the van refused to stop and was pursued. The pursuit ended when the van crashed on Kensington Avenue in New Britain. The operator of the van fled the scene and has not been captured.

The suspect is described by the victim as a 6-foot tall, Middle Eastern male with very thick eye brows and wearing a baggy gray sweatshirt and dark colored sweatpants.

The woman who was abducted is a CCSU student. She was reportedly not injured.

Members of the New Britain Police Department Detective Bureau are investigating this abduction case. Anyone with information regarding this case should call 860.826.3065.

CCSU Police remind students to always be aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious activity. Police also remind students that escort service is available by calling 860-832-2375.
