WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- Officials in West Hartford are calling for more town buildings to be powered by the sun.Over the next year, public buildings and schools in West Hartford could gain new solar technology. The Town Council is calling for up to 10,000 square feet of solar panels. The panels would be installed by a third-party company that would then be responsible for maintenance."All the energy we can get with no cost to the town, no cost to maintain, and we would buy it at a 10 to 15 percent discount," said City Councilman Tim Brennan.
The town is already working on using 20 percent renewable energy by the year 2020."(There) are too many variables in knowing how many rooftops would be suitable, how much energy we can get out of it, but the goal is to save as much money as possible for our taxpayers, but also to get as much clean energy as we can," said Brennan.
