Eyewitness News has learned that crews have responded to a Freon leak at Wal-Mart in Waterford.

The leak was reported at the Wal-Mart off Route 95 on Friday. Fire officials responded to the store at 4:30 a.m.

According to Wal-Mart's corporate communications department, an overnight cleaning crew clipped a line on a freezer around 3:30 a.m., spilling Freon.

Although the store was mostly empty at the time of the spill, one employee was treated for mild irritation.

The Department of Environmental Protection responded to the store, which remained closed and surrounded by police tape at noon.

An inspector was expected to respond to the store to perform testing.
