A Glastonbury fire captain was named Firefighter of the Year on Thursday for his efforts in saving four people from a blaze last summer.

Fire Captain Scott Bidwell was the first firefighter on the scene of the fire, and search for the four people who were trapped inside the home.

"Finding out there were people in the house, I said, 'We have to do it fast, and do it now,'" he said.

Bidwell's heroic action last year earned him numerous awards for his bravery.

He and a Glastonbury police officer managed to get everyone out of the burning home unharmed.

"We carried the elderly woman into the wheelchair and then, helped the older gentleman out, carrying him," Bidwell said.

It is the second time Bidwell has been named Firefighter of the Year.\
