Three passengers of a Shoreline East train were injured in a minor crash on Wednesday.

ConnDOT officials said the four-car train had a locomotive at the end of the end, which separated. When the locomotive separates, its cars go into an automatic breaking mode.

When the cars slowed down, the locomotive slammed into the car in front of it.

The incident occurred before 5 p.m.

Officials from the Department of Transportation said that the train was en route to Old Saybrook and was carrying about 80 passengers, who were then moved to another train.

ConnDOT officials said two trains out of New Haven were delayed as a result.

The passengers injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
