CHAMPLAIN, N.Y. -- Police in northern New York are investigating the theft of a bicycle specially made for a blind 7-year-old girl. Abigail Phaneuf, of Champlain, lost her sight three years ago after a brain tumor damaged her optical nerves. Her mother said the girl has since become accustomed to using her other senses to help guide her through daily activities, including riding her specially made tandem bike with the help of her 11-year-old brother, Joshua. The bike is a yellow and blue mountain bike that has a homemade red rear attachment with handle bars and an extra-wide seat for Abigail.
Troopers said they're searching for the bike and ask anyone who has information to call state police.
