MADISON, Conn. -- A Madison jewelry store has been robbed, according to police.Police said the store, Paul C. Lirot Jewelers on Wall Street, was robbed by two men with weapons. They said the two men, wearing masks, walked into the store in broad daylight."There is a lot of traffic on the street, which, to me, is unbelievable that someone would attempt this in broad daylight," said resident Lorraine Casula. The men were armed with a weapon, police said, and they tied the employees up and sprayed them with mace.
Casula lives across the street from the jewelry store. She said she didn’t see anything but knows the owner. It’s awful that such a thing would happen to the business, she said.Police haven’t said how many employees were in the store at the time of the robbery or how much merchandise was taken.“The store is nice,” said customer Eric Miller. “They have some nice stuff in there as far as handmade stuff, old estate jewelry. It's pretty nice.”The incident is still under investigation, police said.
