Man Says Mold In Home Is Making Him Ill

Condo Association Not Doing Enough, He Says

Robert Trahan said he has a large mold problem in his home that’s making him ill. He said his doctor agrees.

“This is gross,” he said. “I got sick. My wife got sick. I get shortness of breath. They put me on an inhaler."

The Condo Association is replacing the wall and some of the carpet, Trahan said, but it's taken nearly two years. He said it's not enough.

For instance, he said, the association approved carpeting for only half a room.

In the laundry room, he said, there are mold spores on the walls. What you can't see, he said, you can smell.

In the storage room, Trahan said, there was a sewer backup.

The Health Department found violations in the condo as well, he said.

The president of the Condo Association said it has hired a company to fix the basement problems. As for Trahan's home, the president said, officials still don't know what's leaking.

As for insurance, Trahan said, “My insurance company (said) it's too late. They are not going to cover this.”

He said the insurance company told him he should have called right away.
