Officer Injured In Four-Car Crash
Driver Charged With DUI, Possession Of Marijuana

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -- A Willimantic police officer was injured in an early morning four-vehicle crash on Sunday.Police said 19-year-old Johan Concepcion was driving a Volvo westbound on Main Street in Willimantic when he lost control around a curve.The Volvo slid several hundred feet before striking two cars parked in front of a cafe, police said.The impact caused one of the parked cars to overturn on the sidewalk. The Volvo then struck a Willimantic police cruiser head-on, police said.
Three vehicles, including the Volvo and cruiser suffered extensive damage and were towed from the scene.The officer was taken to Windham Hospital with minor injuries. He has since been treated and released.Concepcion was taken to Windham Hospital as well, and was treated and released. He was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving and possession of marijuana.Police said several people were outside the cafe at the the time of the 1:15 a.m. crash, but that none were injured.The crash remains under investigation.
