WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- So far this year, police said, there have been 14 burglaries on Loomis Drive in West Hartford. The items that have been stolen include iPods, digital cameras, laptops, jewelry and, in a few instances, large-screen TVs, officials said. The West Hartford Police Department said Loomis Drive isn’t the only area plagued with burglaries. Police said they’re happening all over town.As a result, police said they’re stepped up patrols, giving extra attention to problem areas.Burglars tend to hit apartments, police said, particularly those on the first floor. Burglars force their way in through locked doors and windows, police said. They said incidents have even occurred in broad daylight. We can't say it's one person,” said Sgt. Jeffrey Rose. “We can't say it's the same person for every burglary, but it's the same method of operation.”Police said the best advice for nervous residents is to ensure that doors are locked, windows and air conditioners are secure, and that they keep their eyes peeled.“Get to know your neighbors, especially with apartment buildings,” said Rose. “You may not know your neighbors that well. Get to know them.”If you're still worried, police said they have a handout with tips and will even come by residences to do a security audit. The department can be reached at 860-523-2013.
