2-Year-Old Rolls Over Mom With Truck

Police: Child Shifted Truck's Gears

Police say a woman was critically injured after being run over by a truck operated by her 2-year-old son.

Police said Brenda Records, 45, was preparing to remove her children from the truck, which was parked in the driveway of her Sherman home on Monday evening.

After Records got out of the truck, police said the toddler climbed into the driver's seat and shifted the truck's gears from the park position. The truck rolled backward in the driveway, dragging Records before rolling over her, police said.

Records' husband, William Records, jumped into the truck in an attempt to stop it, according to police.

State police said that Records' 7-year-old daughter was also in the truck at the time of the accident.

Records was airlifted to St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury before being transported to Hartford Hospital.

"We saw the emergency vehicles come in, the EMTs, then we saw the helicopter come in," said Candlee Wood Lake Drive neighbor Mike Shyman. "We knew it was something not good."

She remained in critical condition on Tuesday.
