The Connecticut State Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the man sought for questioning in the attempted assault of a young child at the New Hartford Public Library.

The attempted assault occurred inside the library on Tuesday around 5 p.m., police said.

He’s described as a white man, about 6 feet tall, with a slim build, brown hair and acne, police said.

At the time of the incident, they said, the man was wearing a light blue, short-sleeved shirt, black shorts and white sneakers. He was in the company of a child described as a white female, 2 to 4 years old, wearing a pink, short-sleeved shirt and light blue shorts.

State police are asking anyone who may have been in the area of the New Hartford Public Library around the time of the incident, or anyone who has any information about the possible identity of the man, to call the New Hartford Resident State Trooper's Office at 860-379-8621, Connecticut State Police Troop B at 860-824-2500 or the toll-free tip line at 800-497-0403.
