BRISTOL, Conn. -- The Shelton Little League team is one win away from the Little League World Series.A win Saturday in the New England regional final in Bristol will make Shelton the first Connecticut team to go to the World Series in Williamsport, Pa., in 19 years.The pint-sized players went up against the Williston, Vt., team in the regional semifinal Thursday afternoon.Shelton took an early lead in the first inning with a solo home run. The lead then widened after Vermont made three errors.
After the second inning, Shelton was leading 5-0 after two innings.In the third inning, Bobby Moretti cracked another home run, scoring three more runs for the team.The team included Tyler Tice, who pitched. One of two players back from last year’s team, he struck out 10 of the 12 batters he faced.In the end, the Connecticut team beat Vermont 12-0.In the finals slated for Saturday, Shelton will play the winner of Thursday night’s game between New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
