HARTFORD, Conn. -- A reverend in Hartford said he plans to “run the bad guys out of dodge.”The Rev. Cornell Lewis said city leaders have an unofficial list of the names and addresses of criminals responsible for violence in the city. This Saturday, he said, a group he’s calling "The True Vanguard" will knock on doors and tell the bad seeds to leave.“Listen, cut out this foolishness, or we'll be out in front of your house until the year 2012,” he said he’ll tell those he confronts. “In other words, you harass us, so now we're going to harass you.”The group plans to nail up posters on polls where they think criminals live to warn people in the neighborhood, Lewis said. The actions border on those of renegades, he said, but he’s not apologetic.“Does it border on mob violence? No,” he said. “And if you think it's breaking the law, the best thing I can tell these people is get a lawyer. They're going to need one, because we're not going to stop.”Willie Harper said he’s a friend of Cornell’s, but he doesn’t necessarily agree with the plan.“To me, it kind of causes conflict in the community -- us against them, them against us,” he said.As a former pro-football player, Harper said he’d like to see more outlets for youth.Cornell said they've been scrounging up funding for that. But in the meantime, he said he, for one, isn’t afraid to confront the people in the city with the guns and knives -- or of the possible repercussions.
