Campfire Smoke Leads Police To Suspect
Man Accused Of Exposing Self To Hikers, Horseback Riders

COVENTRY, Conn. -- Smoke from a campfire led officers to a man wanted on several warrants and accused of exposing himself to people walking on a Coventry trail, police said.Police said that at about 3 p.m. on Tuesday, officers saw smoke coming from a wooded area between the east and westbound lanes of the Route 6 limited access highway. Police said they had received tips that Frank Hicks, 44, was living at the campsite.Hicks was wanted by police on charges of violation of probation. Several pedestrians and horseback riders had also filed complaints that Hicks had exposed himself to them and yelled at them while on the Department of Environmental Protection trail, police said.Coventry police said officers used a stun gun and baton to subdue Hicks, who they said tried to flee when he saw police.
He was taken into police custody and charged with violation of probation, interfering with an officer and possession of paraphernalia.He remains held on $51,000 bond and was scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday.
