UPDATED: 12:42 pm EDT September 14, 2008

A Woodbridge man has been released on bond after police said he broke into the apartment of an University of Connecticut student and raped her.

The woman told UConn police that she was sleeping when a man broke into her apartment and sexually assaulted her on Saturday.

Police said the student began screaming and the man fled the Celeron Square apartment complex.

When officers arrived, they said Frank Cirillo, 21, was found partially clothed attempting to force his way into a nearby apartment.

Cirillo was taken into police custody and charged with home invasion, sexual assault in the first degree, burglary, criminal attempt burglary, criminal mischief, larceny and breach of peace.

He was released after posting a $500,000 bond.

Cirillo is scheduled for arraignment at Tolland County Superior Court on Sept. 23.

UConn police said there is no apparent relation between Saturday’s assault and another sexual assault that took place on the campus on Sept. 6
