Man Stabs Self In Stomach Before Arrest

Police: Altercation Ensued During Warrant Serving

POSTED: 8:13 am EDT October 7, 2008

A man stabbed himself in the stomach while a bail enforcement company attempted to serve warrants for his arrest, police said.

Police said the bail company was serving warrants to Cloyd Lee Jr., 32, on Regan Street before 8 p.m. Monday. Members of the company called Vernon police and reported that Lee had barricaded himself inside his apartment.

It was also reported, police said, that Lee may have been fighting with a woman inside the apartment.

The bail agents kicked open the door and used pepper spray on Lee, who they said was fighting with them.

Police said Lee then grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed himself in the stomach. Lee dropped the knife after being sprayed with pepper spray foam, police said.

Lee was taken into custody of Vernon police after being apprehended by the bail agents.

Police said Lee was yelling and combative while being transported to Rockville Hospital.

They said he remained in custody Tuesday on six warrants from various agencies, stemming from failure to appear in court for cases. Police said some of the crimes Lee is charged with include intimidating a witness, assault, violation of probation, threatening and breach of peace.

The total bonds on the six warrants is $250,000.
