Armed Man Forces Standoff In East Hampton

Incident Forced Closure Of Main Street

Police entered a standoff Wednesday with an armed man, which forced the area to be closed to traffic.

The incident took place on Main Street during the afternoon hours, police said, and led to a standoff with the man at a residence in the area.

Police said the distraught man has barricaded himself inside a house. They said they have set up a staging area at the Liberty Bank at the intersection of Route 66 and North Main Street.

East Hampton police have called in the SWAT team from Middletown for assistance.
