LITCHFIELD, Conn. -- Two developers from Litchfield have big Riverfront plans for an old brass factory in Thomaston.Beyond the overgrown grass and dilapidated buildings, Tom Battiste said he has a clear vision. He said it’s liquid gold and being underutilized. The Litchfield developer and his partner, who own Northbury Realty and Development, said they've agreed to buy the old Plume and Atwood manufacturing company. Their goal, they said, is to take advantage of the nearby Naugatuck River with outlet, retail and residential zones and more. The cost of the project is about $50 million, Battiste said. He said it would be paid for by private equity and state and federal aid.“This will reduce the tax base and provide services to the average consumer, who travels 16 miles for shopping outlets,” Battiste said.“It should be a good thing to promote business for the new ones coming here and the others already here,” said Dave Geddes, of Thomaston. But not everyone is crazy about what could be River Station Village and the idea of upgrading Thomaston's train station. One resident, who has lived in the area for nearly 20 years, said she’s worried about traffic and enjoys walking in the area with her dogs.
