MORRIS, Conn. -- A Warren teen has been formally charged in the shooting death of his brother in Southbury.Neighbors said they witnessed Stephen Throckmorton, 19, fleeing from the home on White Birch Drive in Southbury where his 21-year-old brother, Robert, was shot.
He drove to a location on Route 341 near Warren Elementary School where he left his vehicle, forcing the school into lockdown while police searched for him.All schools in Region 6 were closed Tuesday while police continued their search, eventually locating Throckmorton at a home in Morris.Police initially targeted the home in Warren he shared with his father and stepmother during their investigation.Jennifer Brady said neighbors watched as police stormed the home across the street, where Throckmorton is said to live with his father and stepmother.“A bunch of other state troopers came,” she said. “They put on their bulletproof vests. They had shotguns, a search dog and went in house to look for Stephen and no one was home.”Police said they believe the incident may have been an accident and that the brothers were playing with guns.Neighbors said it's a relief to hear the shooting may have been an accident, but that it's still a tragic event.Throckmorton has been charged with first-degree manslaughter with a firearm in his brother's death and breach of peace and interfering with police for fleeing.
