Emergency workers found residents dangling from the windows of a burning building in Milford early Sunday morning.

Crews were called to a three-family home on West Street after 1 a.m. They said a member of the Milford Fire Department, Jason Hall, lives directly behind the home and woke to the sound of breaking glass and a smoke detector sounding.

Hall said he could see flames coming from the home's second floor as he ran toward it while dialing 911.

When multiple fire crews arrived, they said people were hanging out the windows on the second and third floors. The occupant of the second floor was able to jump to safety, officials said. They said two occupants on the third floor were able to make their way down the home's stairs.

One person was taken to Milford Hospital for evaluation.

The fire marshal is working to determine the fire's cause and the American Red Cross is working to assist the displaced families.
