HARTFORD, Conn. -- Hartford police are investigating a string of burglaries they said have hit homeowners hard on the north side of the city. The pattern of burglaries has hit at least 10 places over the past few weeks. The rash of burglaries has struck the Blue Hills neighborhood. Marcellina Drake, a longtime homeowner who lives a few blocks from the most recent incident, said she's shocked to hear about crimes."I just think it's a shame," she said.Police Chief Daryl Roberts said most of the break-ins have taken place during the day, while people are at work."It appears that people are trying to get into garages and into some homes," he said. "It may be some juveniles because some of the stuff that's being taken, like the Xbox computer games, things of that nature, laptops. So we're a little concerned about that."Roberts said he's confident investigators will catch whoever is responsible. He said the department's Compstat computerized crime tracking system helped officers catch a man responsible for 33 burglaries a few years ago.Drake said she hopes history repeats itself."We work too hard for our stuff," she said. "We don't want nobody to take it."Compared to this time last year, Roberts said, burglaries in the city are down 15 percent, and 6 percent in Blue Hills.Anyone with information is asked to call the Hartford Police Major Crimes Unit at 860-757-4089.
