HARTFORD, Conn. -- A jogger died after being hit by a vehicle in Preston Friday.

Maria Pontes, 39, of Westport, Mass., was westbound on the eastbound shoulder of Route 2 when she was hit at 8:52 a.m. She was taken to Backus Hospital in Norwich by ambulance but succumbed to injuries, according to State Police Troop E in Montville.

The 75-year-old driver from Glastonbury, Conn., was treated and released.

The accident is under investigation.
