VERNON, Conn. -- A water-main problem in Vernon caused school officials to put Lake Street School on a half-day schedule.Afternoon kindergarten was also canceled at the school."We saw water spilling out of a circle and ... it was spilling out all night, and this morning a little bit, and no water was coming out because all the water was gone," student Christopher Pozzato said.School officials said there was no flooding into the school, but that a water gasket on the main going into the school blew, leaving the building without water."I saw all the bubbling," said Valerie Pozzato, Christopher's grandmother. "So I thought, 'Well, you know, it looks like they're going to have some construction up there, I better get up there early."The gasket was fixed by noon, but school officials said they would continue with the early dismissal plan."I have to say, we saw on Channel 3, the alert that Vernon's Lake Street School was closing, so we were able to be here, ready," Valerie Pozzato said. The school remains in session for another week.
