UPDATED: 10:42 am EDT June 22, 2009

A man who police said was seen driving around Windsor Locks in his underwear was arrested after a standoff with police Sunday morning.

Police said officers received a call just after 9 a.m. that a man was driving around his Third Street home in his underwear.

Police said when officers arrived, the man was standing in his yard in his underwear with what appeared to be a knife. The man ran into his home and barricaded himself in the basement, police said. They said the man claimed to have a gun.

While negotiators were called to the home, police said the man tried to elude police by setting off a diversion in the basement and attempting to run out the door.

The man was taken into police custody before 11:30 a.m. and taken to Hartford Hospital for evaluation. The incident remains under investigation.
