GUILFORD, Conn. -- A University of Connecticut student drowned while swimming with a group of students in a Guilford pond Sunday.Police said Garland Brown, 19, of Queens, N.Y., was swimming with seven friends at a private pond at the end of Susanne Circle, when he disappeared beneath the water.Emergency crews were called to the pond at about 2:40 p.m. They said Brown’s friends were able to drag him to the shore and begin CPR until paramedics arrived.Brown was taken to the Yale Clinic, where he was pronounced dead.Police said Brown was visiting friends in Guilford who also attend UConn.The drowning remains under investigation.
