GRANBY, Conn. -- Four departments were called to a fire in Granby on Monday that left a large garage torched.Emergency crews said they heard small explosions coming from some of the gas containers inside the building when they arrived. The fire pulled volunteers at the town's small Lost Acres Fire Department off their day jobs, along with crews from East Granby, Simsbury and another from Granby.Crews said much of the battle was working to put out the hot spots in the detached garage, which houses a number of collectible M.G. cars from the 1960s and 1970s.Crews said one of the vehicles was saved, but two others, and an RV, were destroyed. There were also two propane tanks in the back of the building that firefighters said had them concerned. They said both tanks had a large amount of propane in them, but that they didn't heat up to the point where they could have exploded.Crews said they were able to extinguish the fire quickly by shuttling more than 8,000 gallons of water up a long driveway off a rural road in town. The workshop-style garage was destroyed, fire officials said, but no one was hurt in the fire. The Lost Acres Fire Department said it's still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
