Traffic officials said a downed tree forced Route 198 in Chaplin to be closed on Tuesday afternoon.

The Department of Transportation said the road was closed at the intersection of Route 198 and Bedlam Road.

Officials said the tree fell into some electrical wires.

Officials estimated it would take seven to eight hours to clear the area.

Wind and rain also caused damage in other parts of the state on Tuesday as thunderstorms moved through the region.

Due to the storms, forming west of a park in New York, Quassy Amusement Park canceled its Naugatuck Community Band concert at the Lakeside Theatre stage.

In addition, Connecticut Light & Power reported that about 26,000 people were without power at one point.
