Man Wanted In Connection With Death At Travel Center

BRANFORD, Conn. -- A man identified as a person of interest in the death of a man at a Branford travel center was featured on "America’s Most Wanted" Saturday night.The body of Dale Anderson was discovered on April 17 in the trailer portion of a tractor-trailer at the TA Travel Center in Branford.Police said Anderson was “violently beaten” and suffered facial and skull fractures as well as fractures of both arms.Another truck driver told police that Anderson had asked him on April 15 if he needed a helper. The driver said he told Anderson he had a helper, later identified as Michael Chaves, but told Anderson he could sleep in the trailer of his truck with Chaves.The driver said he could not find Chaves or Anderson the next day and assumed they got work and left the area. The driver then discovered Anderson’s body on April 17. Police said Anderson’s belongings were with his body in the truck, but that Chaves’ things were gone.Police said Chaves is believed to be the last person to see Anderson alive. He was identified Saturday as a person of interest in the investigation into Anderson’s death..Police said they believe Chaves may be in the California area. He is wanted by the Dallas Police Department for violation of probation.Police said Chaves is likely working as a laborer for a furniture-moving truck driver and is likely spending a significant amount of time in truck stops throughout the country.Chaves, 39, is described as white, 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build and last known to have short brown hair. He was last known to carry his belongings in a brown knapsack.Chaves was featured on “America’s Most Wanted” on Saturday night.Anyone with information regarding Chaves’ whereabouts is urged to contact the Branford Police Department by dialing 203-481-4241.
